2024 CTE Day at the WV Legislature

Spring 2024

The WPHS Career Center headed to our state Capitol building in Charleston, WV to showcase what some of our simulated workplaces have been working on this year.  Studio 235 brought senior designers Katelyn K., Audrey K., and freshman designer Wyatt R.

This year we offered digital wet-plate style portraits to visitors and also offered a branded and printed polaroid version!

Big thanks to those who joined us and participated! Feel free to find your digital wet-plate photo below and save it. Hope to see you again next year!

What’ s wet-plate photography and why did we do this at CTE Day?

This year, students decided on a “folklore” theme for Cluster Magazine (which will be coming out in late April)! This led us to style the CTE completer yearbook section in the style of wet-plate photography.

Wet-plate photography, also called the collodion process, was a major photography method in the 1800s. It works by coating a glass plate with a special liquid, adding silver nitrate for sensitivity, then taking the picture while it's still wet. Though it produces beautiful and intricate images, it needs careful setup and has to be done fast before the plate dries out. We used an app to create these digital versions, but it’s still a lot of fun!

The CTE Graphic Design program at Wheeling Park High School prepares students to enter the field of design or for further education in this field.
